Fellowship Programs
Orthopaedic Hand Fellowship
Applications are now being accepted for a one-year fellowship position in orthopaedic hand surgery. The fellowship is under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Isaacs, but fellows will spend time with several hand and upper extremity surgeons. The fellowship is designed to offer a broad exposure to all facets of hand surgery, but can be tailored towards individual interests, including complex shoulder and elbow trauma and reconstruction, burn surgery, or peripheral nerve and brachial plexus.
Fellows will experience a variety of surgeries ranging from routine hand and wrist surgery to complex trauma and extremity reconstruction. Microsurgical exposure will include training in the microsurgery lab, free tissue transfers, replants/revascularization procedures and nerve surgery. Fellows will have ample clinical exposure as well.
Fellows will be involved in at least one research project and expected to complete at least one additional academic endeavor (review article, case report, chapter, etc.). Though we endorse an active learning environment, regular didactic lessons will be an integral part of the fellowship as well.
Applicants must be Board eligible and able to obtain medical licensure in the state of Virginia. Our program participates in the NRMP and requires the following application materials:
- Universal hand application
- Curriculum vitae
- Original or notarized (certified copy of the original) USMLE score report or COMLEX report
- Original or notarized (certified copy of the original) medical school transcripts
- Original or notarized (certified copy of the original) medical school diploma
- Three letters of recommendation, original in sealed envelopes

Adult Reconstruction
Applications are now being accepted for a one-year fellowship position in joint replacement and adult reconstruction surgery through the SF Match. The fellowship is under the direction of Dr. Gregory Golladay. This fellowship will emphasize complex revision surgery and complex primary surgery. The fellow also will supervise residents, provide didactic teaching and have an opportunity to work in a basic science and biomechanics laboratory. Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship
Applications are now being accepted for a one-year fellowship position in orthopaedic trauma through the SF Match. The fellowship is under the direction of Dr. Varatharaj Mounasamy. VCU Medical Center has the region’s only Level I trauma center. The fellow will receive a broad trauma experience with emphasis on pelvic/acetabular fractures, peri-articular fractures and polytrauma management. Research through an established biomechanics lab is available. Applicants must be Board eligible and able to obtain medical licensure in the state of Virginia.
